About Wichita Falls
Wichita Falls was named after the river that was
called after the Indians. The original falls have
been lost, but replica falls have been built in
recent years. Conveniently located off I-44, in
North Texas, on the banks of the Wichita River,
Wichita Falls is a beautiful and historic city
packed with exciting attractions, cultural
landmarks, unique museums, historic theaters, motor
speedways, thrilling events and festivals, and
breathtaking parks, lakes, rivers, waterfalls,
nature trails and recreational lands.
Discover miles of bike and hike trails throughout
the city. Explore the natural beauty of Lucy Park,
Lake Arrowhead State Park, Lake Wichita and the
Tacoma countryside. Celebrate extraordinary outdoor
events like Falls Fest, visit the famous 54-foot
Waterfall, or look for the colorful Mane Event
horses.
Wichita Falls honors its cultural and artistic
heritage at the Wichita Falls Art Museum, Kemp
Center, Backdoor Theatre and the restored Wichita
Theater and Opera House. For treasure hunters,
Downtown Wichita Falls boasts an impressive count of
antique malls and shops. Flowing through Wichita
Falls, Texas, and Lucy Park, the 90-mile Wichita
River is a beautiful destination for canoe, kayak
and rafting trips. Castaway Cove Waterpark is a
tropical-themed family paradise. The water park
features several slides and water thrill rides from
40-foot and 50-foot towers, as well as the Lazy
River floating stream, Tidal Wave Pool, an
interactive Kiddie Park, and fun family concerts.
Located in a bend of the Wichita River, Lucy Park is
beautifully landscaped setting with a 1.7-mile
hiking and biking trail. The 178-acre park also
features a large duck pond, a swimming pool, a log
cabin, pavilions, basketball courts, 18-hole disc
golf course, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, a
concrete volleyball court, picnic areas and
shelters, BBQ grills, benches and Lucy Land
Playground. From a simple picnic or afternoon
retreat to the park to a technical hike, a round of
golf, or a more adventurous sport, there are plenty
